I GOT INTO REAL ESTATE WHEN I WAS 18... BUT, I NEVER TOOK IT SERIOUSLY...
I took my real estate exam the first time... and failed.
So, I tried again,... and failed again.
The third time? I passed.
I started working for a brokerage, had absolutely no idea what I was doing and I gave up.
I always wanted to do my own thing and be my own boss. So, I did…
My brother and I started an apartment finder company called ApartmentMonster.com — It was a cool business; we would take video tours of apartments and publish them on our website and we gave a $175 Rebate to anyone who used the service. It was good for a while, but we couldn’t keep up with major competitors.
I became the Marketing Director for a new patent-pending scarf called the Siblee (named after the inventor, Sybil). The scarf was actually very interesting because it could convert into a shawl within seconds.
We sent a bunch to the Today Show, Ellen, Good Morning America… We got a whole bunch of buzz behind the product, launched, made $30,000 our first week, and then completely bombed. We never gained any traction and we unfortunately failed.
I waS SO FRUSTRATED
I spent years on this project that totally collapsed. But, I kept fighting and used the knowledge I gained from that project and my years of marketing experience to start my own marketing business called Marketing Lead Network. I succeeded by helping businesses thrive on Google/Facebook by building up their social media and web presence. Although the business did very well in terms of profit, I still felt like it wasn’t my true calling.
So, I CREATED an IPHONE APP...
This was an awesome app.
Tivvi was a startup based out of Berkeley, CA — this app was based around group sharing. I, along with a few friends, worked tirelessly, for months to build an iPhone app from scratch. We ended up getting it built, launched, and we did pretty well. However, over time, we learned that without the proper funding, we wouldn’t survive.
When I knew the app wasn’t going to take off, I went back to school to obtain my Masters Degree in Business. I attended Wayne State University and graduated with my MBA.
THERE WAS A POINT IN MY LIFE WHERE I WAS DOING ALL OF THESE BUSINESSES AT THE SAME TIME.
AND, I BURNT OUT. I CALL THIS “OLD STYLE” OF LIVING, BEING “HORIZONTAL”.
IT WASN’T UNTIL I TURNED MY LIFE “VERTICAL” THAT I BECAME THE MOST SUCCESSFUL.
So, I decided to pick ONE THING and be the best at it. So, I did. And I chose REAL ESTATE.
I got rid of everything in my life that didn’t have to do with Real Estate and I focused my heart and soul into one thing and one thing ONLY.
Now, I’m a real estate instructor, a real estate coach, a real estate agent, a real estate investor, and a real estate entrepreneur all around. And, let me tell you, I’ve never been so damn happy in my entire life.
